Areas of ExpertiseExpertiseJames practices primarily in litigation. He assists clients in a range of industries including: property development, insolvency practice and insurance finance. James deals with matters particularly in the Supreme and Federal Courts, and also in the County Court, Magistrates Court and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. James commenced his legal career in Canberra in the Australian Public Service. While there, he worked in different agencies, including as a lawyer at Comcare (the Commonwealth workers' compensation authority). After five years in the Australian Public Service, James went on to work as a legal officer for the Law Council of Australia, the peak national body representing the legal profession. While there, he was involved in lobbying and submissions on issues including regulation of the legal profession, insurance and personal injuries. In 2005, he left Canberra to come to Melbourne, practising initially as a barrister for two years. While at the Bar, James practised broadly in commercial litigation, accident compensation and criminal law, with special interests in Commonwealth legislation and in administrative law. In addition to Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degrees from the University of Adelaide, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of South Australia, James has completed post-graduate studies. He holds a Master of Laws degree from the Australian National University. At Brand Partners, James brings his court experience to help clients navigate the legal process without losing sight of their business objectives.
